HELPER, Utah — A man who was walking along the highway has died after being struck by a vehicle who fled the scene.
At approximately 1:10 p.m., on August 23, 2020, a man walking in the emergency lane on U.S. Highway 6 was struck by a pickup truck near mile marker 233.
The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety.
After striking the victim, the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene.
"A UHP [Utah Highway Patrol] trooper located a truck with extensive damage consistent with front passenger side collision/impact," stated the department. "This was approximately five miles east of the scene. The UHP trooper made a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver admitted they accidentally hit the pedestrian."
Police have identified the victim as 60-year-old James Wallberg from Carbonville, Utah.
