MONTICELLO, Utah — One person was killed and two others were injured in a violent rollover crash east of Monticello last week, the San Juan County Sheriff's Office confirmed on Tuesday.
The crash occurred on June 15, 2020, on West Summit Road, east of Monticello, Utah, in San Juan County.
Police say a passerby discovered the wreckage and called 911.
"A Dodge Ram with two male occupants and one female occupant were traveling at an excessive rate of speed, when the driver, identified as Jared Ehlers, age 41, lost control of the vehicle and rolled approximately three times," read a statement from the San Juan Sheriff's Office.
Ehlers, according to police, was ejected from the vehicle, sustained significant injuries, and was airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado.
30-year-old Clay Cowan, identified by police as the front passenger in the Dodge, was wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries, was transported to San Juan Hospital, and released later that day.
38-year-old Stephanie Zimmerman, a third occupant of the vehicle, was ejected and pronounced deceased on scene, according to police.
The sheriff's office says the investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing.
