KANAB, Utah — A 30-year-old male that went missing on August 14, 2020 was found deceased in Jackson Flat Reservoir this afternoon.
Abraham Knudson was reported missing at approximately 5 p.m. on Friday after hiking near the reservoir in Kanab, Utah, earlier that day with a female friend.
The female told Kane Sheriff Deputies where she last saw Knudson and how he went missing. Deputies say a search of the area began immediately, the Search and Rescue Team was activated, and both a ground search with trained search dogs and water search with boats and kayaks was performed for several hours.
A Classic Air Medical Helicopter from Page, Arizona, also responded to assist in the search. The helicopter searched for about two hours but was unsuccessful locating the missing man.
According to police, the Utah Department of Public Safety Dive Team located on the Wasatch Front was called in to assist with the search on Saturday morning.
The dive team arrived in the morning of August 15, 2020, and after a briefing with the other responding teams launched their specially equipped boats into the reservoir at approximately 12:15 p.m.
"At approximately 1:15 p.m. they located a possible image with their sonar equipment," stated the Sheriff's Office. "Two divers with diving equipment entered the water and were able to locate the man in approximately 14 feet of water."
The man's body was recovered from the reservoir and he was pronounced deceased.
Police say the man matched the description of Knudson. The official cause of death is still under investigation with the assistance of the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office.
